Sample task 1
- The female speaker's mother feels that as her daughter is a student, and not working, she does not need a mobile phone.
- The male speaker points out that mobile phones are convenient for everyday life and that they allow one to be easily contacted.
- The male speaker suggests to the female speaker that she finds some work, such as washing cars for people or selling newspapers, to raise the money to buy a phone.
- The phone will incur call charges.
Sample task 2
In your answer, you should:
- use e-mail format
- tell David whether or not you would like to go out with him on Saturday
- tell him if you agree with his suggestion and tell him if you would like others to join you
- suggest other activities to David
- tell David whether or not you will be able to dine at his place (for pizza) and whether or not you will sleep at his place.
Sample task 3
- The topic is about a 'video' mobile telephone.
- This item is popular with people who have to leave their home to travel to a far away place for work, study or holiday. Using this 'video' mobile telephone, they can see their family and would not be too homesick.
- The disadvantages are that it is very expensive to buy a 'video' mobile telephone as it's new and telephone fees are also expensive at present.
Sample task 4
In your answer, you should:
- use letter format
- say that you are touched to receive this letter
- explain why you change your appearance and apologise that you have hurt your mother
- tell where you go when you are out with your friends
- say what you do when you go out
- respond to your mother's concern about your discerning power
- reveal to your mother how you feel about her treatment of you
- express your wish to have a good relationship with your mother.
