Sample task 1

1. The writer likes Shanghai best because there are lots of things to buy which are cheap.

2. The teacher likes Hangzhou best because the gardens and houses there are very pretty.

3. When the writer first arrived in Beijing, the weather was either raining or overcast.

4. The writer went boating and cycling in West Lake.

 

Sample task 2

In your answers, you should:

• use e-mail format
  
  
• talk about your study
  
  
• speak about the weather in July in Australia
  
  
• suggest to Li Guo three cities for him to visit and give reasons why he should visit them
  
  
• speak about the availability of cheap hotels and transport
  
  
• tell him whether or not you will be on holiday in July and indicate if you would like to join him
  
  
• say anything else you would like to add.
  
  

Sample task 3

1. The writer went to Canberra because he/she heard that Canberra is a world famous garden city, it has beautiful scenery and it's a place for tourists.
   
   
2. The writer said they were lucky because they have brought clothes for all types of weather to fit in with Canberra's hot weather in the day and the cold weather at night.
   
   
3. Four things about Canberra (any four from the following):
   • most beautiful flower gardens in the world
   • beautiful scenery
   • great place to visit
   • in Spring, they can see a lot of beautiful and colourful gardens
   • famous places such as the National Art Gallery, National Library, War Memorial etc.
   • lots of different types of food.
     
     
4. They went by car and only took 4 to 5 hours to go to Canberra. He/she thinks that Canberra is not far from Sydney. It's a worthwhile place to visit and he/she wants to go there again.

In your answer, you should:

• say that you are pleased to offer help
  
  
• say that they have made the right decision to visit China
  
  
• suggest some places they should go in China
  
  
• suggest transport and accommodation arrangements with reference to your travel experiences while in China last year
  
  
• express your wish that they will have a happy trip.
