Manipulation of the elements of dance as they relate to concept/intent for 2 or 3 dancers

Manipulating space for two or three dancers

In relation to two or three dancers, you should consider:

Activity 1
1. Ask your dancers to perform a shape, motif or phrase you have created. What does the shape, motif or phrase of movement look like when performed to different directions? Which directional emphasis is more successful from an audience point of view? Does a change in direction change the meaning or aesthetic of the shape or movement?
2. Exaggerate height, width or depth of a shape or movement. Does this enhance the meaning intended?
3. Reflect on the movement phrases you have created. Are you exploring a range of planes? Is this relevant to your intent?

Activity 2
Combine your explorations in manipulating geometry. Ask your dancers to perform varied phrases. Discuss the result in relation to your intention.
