  1. Explain the difference between qualitiative and quantitative research.

Quantitative research is more effective if you want to find out facts about the research problem, for example, the number of home theatre systems sold in the past two years in NSW. Whilst qualitative research allows you to examine the finer points or depth of a research problem, for example, what are the common specific features purchasers wanted in a home theatre system and why?

  2. Give some examples of research problems that could be answered using qualitative research.

Consumer wants, for example, taste, texture of particular snack foods. This would require people's opinions.

  3. Give some examples of research problems that could be answered using quantitative research.

The number of people and their specific age groups who purchased video mobile phones since their introduction. This would assist further market development of the product.
