- Explain the difference between qualitiative and quantitative research.
Quantitative research is more effective if you want to find
out facts about the research problem, for example, the number
of home theatre systems sold in the past two years in NSW. Whilst
qualitative research allows you to examine the finer points or
depth of a research problem, for example, what are the common
specific features purchasers wanted in a home theatre system
and why?
- Give some examples of research problems
that could be answered using qualitative research.
Consumer wants, for example, taste, texture of particular snack
foods. This would require people's opinions.
- Give some examples of research problems
that could be answered using quantitative research.
The number of people and their specific age groups who purchased
video mobile phones since their introduction. This would assist
further market development of the product.
