If you want to become an engineer you will need your Higher School Certificate and you may need some specific subjects that will help you when you enter TAFE or University. These are called pre-requisites.
It is not possible to leave school and enter the engineering profession without first completing a suitable training course. Different courses are available to meet the training needs for each of the three categories of engineering — professional engineers, engineering technicians or engineering associates.
If you are considering engineering as a probable career for the future then you will need to focus your secondary school studies to meet the requirements of the various training courses at University or TAFE.
Some details about school subject pre-requisites are available by visiting the Engineers Australia web site http://www.engineersaustralia.org.au/careers/faqs/faqs_home.cfm
Courses of study for various disciplines of engineering are provided at most of the Universities in New South Wales and other universities throughout the country and overseas. You will find below a list of the NSW Universities that offer Engineering courses. When you get onto a particular site ‘click’ on the Faculties/Departments button, and follow the links to Engineering.
Applications for admission to a university to study engineering are usually made through the Universities Admission Centre which can be found at http://www.uac.edu.au/
.
Another source of study for Engineering Technicians and Engineering Associates is through the Technical and Further Education Colleges located throughout NSW. Engineering will not be available at all TAFE Colleges, but you will find more detail at http://www.tafe.nsw.edu.au/
