Name: Peter Koulos
Age: 28
Employer: Norman Disney & Young (Building Services Consultants)
Position in company: Associate (Electrical Services)
Job description: Electrical engineer involved in the design of power systems (generators, UPS, switchboards), lighting and undertaking construction and administration of projects.
Qualifications: BE (Elec) (Hons), Grad Dip (Illumination Design), Certificate in Electrical Wiring, Electrical Contractors License.
Best thing about the job: I have been involved in large and challenging projects including Fox Studios Australia, Sydney Opera House and am currently working on a 40 storey high-rise tower in Sydney.
Worst thing about the job: There are times when there significant time pressures to get things completed whilst trying to handle multiple projects.
Strangest thing you’ve had to do: Design emergency and exit lighting to handle the simulated impact scene of the Titanic Show at Fox Studios. The fittings had to withstand a 2g force without falling to bits.
When you were at school, did you plan to do this type of work? When I was at school my main interest was music and engineering technology. Only after some deep thought did I decide to do engineering, but I never expected I would be involved in the industry I am now in.
