Term Definition
Bin cards Used to record the movement of stock from the store.
Delivery docket A form from the supplier that accompanies goods and is signed upon receipt by the customer.
Environmental hygiene This refers to the need to keep your workplace free of clutter and conditions that allow bacteria and vermin to thrive.
Invoice An itemised bill or account.
Lifting techniques The processes employed to ensure the safe lifting and movement of goods.
Manual handling Using human force to move or support a load (including moving, lifting, putting down, pushing pulling, or carrying).
Occupational Health and
Safety
Legislation, policies, procedures and activities that aim to protect the health, safety and welfare of all people at the workplace.
Order A request to a particular supplier to supply stock items.
Stock cards Cards which record the quantity and quality of each stock item that is in storage.
Stock control The management of stock to ensure adequate levels of all stock items are maintained for the successful operation of an enterprise.
Stock control documentation Records showing the ordering, storing, issuing and monitoring of stock.
Stock control systems Standardised procedures for maintaining and monitoring stock.
Stock replenishment The replacement of stock to maintain adequate stock levels.
Stock rotation A stock control system where older stock is sold before newer stock.
Stock take A physical count of all the items in stores to keep track of stock movements and establish what needs to be purchased to bring stores up to set levels.
Storage A space for storing goods.
Supplier A provider of goods or services.
Wholesaler A business that sells stock to other businesses at lower prices than retail outlets and in bulk quantities.
