- social impact monitoring;
- hazardous substances and industrial waste management;
- radiation monitoring and management;
- air quality management;

- environmental planning and operating systems, including employment and training programs; and
- rehabilitation.

List the main requirements in the agreement between the Federal Govt. and the Northern Land Council.
The main requirements provide for:
- Protection of the environment, the health of local people and sacred sites while promoting knowledge and understanding of, and respect for the traditions, language and culture of the Aboriginal people.
- Rehabilitation of land disturbed at Ranger.
- Aboriginal involvement. As many local Aboriginal people as possible are to be offered employment and training at Ranger while opportunities are to be provided for Aboriginal people to supply goods and services to the mine
- Educating all Ranger employees about Aboriginal culture.
- Compensating the Aboriginal owners for the loss of the use of the Ranger area through the payment of royalties.
- Liaison. A liaison committee, consisting of Aboriginal representatives and Company employees, to ensure that the rights of Aboriginal people affected by the mine"s operations are protected.

Question 3.
Outline the steps in the water purification process at the treatment plant.
The purification process includes:
- pre-treatment or setting using a clarifier
- ultra filtration using membranes and
- a process of even finer filtration known as reverse osmosis.
- The water is then be released into the environment either directly (treated pond water) or through wetland filters(treated process water).
