Presentation is always an important consideration. Essays are required to be typed and double-spaced. Each page is to be numbered and a progressive word count should be included in the margin, after every 100 words. A bibliography and discography should also be included with the essay.
Once your essay is written, it is a good idea to put it away for a period of time and then revisit it.
When you revisit you essay, check for clarity of expression and a cohesive argument. Ensure all points are supported with musical references where appropriate. Check for "typos", spelling mistakes and any details that may have been left off score excerpts.
Then, get as many people as possible to read it! This will not only find the mistakes you might have missed but it will also clarify whether or not your argument makes sense!
