The HSC Standards Package CD-ROMs for Music 2 and Music Extension, published by the NSW Board of Studies, provide sample musicology essays which illustrate the standard expected for different performance bands. These CD-ROMs are sent to schools and can be accessed through your teacher or school library.
Another useful source of information is the Board
of Studies
web site where you will find information on strengths
and weaknesses of all sections of the examination. Look for Notes
from the Examination Centre as well as examination reports
for the years between 1995 and 2000 where a number of essays have
been reproduced with the markers comments.
A number of useful musicology sites have been listed in the Musicology
resources
section of the HSC Online site.
Although it is possible to find pre-written essays on the Internet, the examples we have looked at above, demonstrate that these documents have not been written to meet the criteria of the HSC exam.
