ACHPER
The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and
Recreation Inc. (ACHPER) has created a visually enticing Web
site for those interested in gaining insight into their range
of services for members and interested onlookers. There is a
strong emphasis on professional development, such as the
courses developed through State Associations. Of particular
value to teachers is Bookshop, which
profiles several resources for teachers and includes links to
a nationwide mailing list and the complete catalogue.
ACHPER’s membership base extends beyond teaching. The
site also offers material and activities which would best fit
outside of traditional teaching interests, and may enhance
opportunities for broadening one’s range of experiences

AIS sports

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) sports
nutrition web site delivers a world class nutrition service
to AIS sports and national teams. It features a wide range of
resources to assist recreational and elite athletes, the
general public, and students to stay up to date with the
latest strategies in sports nutrition. Some excellent
inclusions in the site are Recipes,
Research, Fact sheets,
Supplements, Information for school
assignments and Links, which offers
information from reputable organisations. Although aspects of
nutrition are covered in the PDHPE syllabus from Early Stage
1 through to Stage 6, this site would be most beneficial to
Stage 5 and Stage 6 students. It would be an excellent
resource for investigating the critical question: How can

ASC Olympic fact sheets
Although print based, with few graphics, this site contains
seventeen fact sheets, which adequately cover Olympic topics.
These include: the history of ancient and modern Olympics;
the Olympic tradition; world politics; the changing role of
women; technology; drug testing; nutrition; and the
Paralympics. Charts allow interesting comparisons to be made,
for example between the medal tallies of men and women,
although not all charts have a good print clarity. Selected
fact sheets could have relevance to the Sport and
physical activity in Australian society and Sports
medicine (eg. Sports science and the
Olympics) options in the PDHPE: Stage 6

An American site, this promotes and encourages communities

benefit of this site is in the information provided about
processes needed to get communities and individuals to
initiate personal action to avoid drug taking behaviours. The
