The terms listed below are important for carrying out a fencing task safely and effectively. They have become separated from their definition. Select a term from the column on the left, match it to the correct definition.

Fencing term Definition
Standard operating procedures (SOP) Assessing the hazards and risks associated with a task and implementing risk controls
Risk assessment Sources of danger that could produce injury or disease
Hazards Materials such as wire, hinges, gates, netting, posts and stays that can be reused
Work plan Replacing soil, storing reusable materials and safely disposing of non-reusable materials
Reusable materials Guidelines for carrying out a task safely
Manufacturer’s specifications Established set of procedures to be followed when carrying out a task, especially operating machinery and equipment
Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Equipment worn by workers to reduce the risk from OHS hazards
Safe work practices Equipment such as post drivers, post hole diggers and borers, crowbars, wire strainers and fencing pliers
Maintenance and repair of fencing Systems and procedures for carrying out tasks in a workplace
Enterprise requirements Fixing components or sections of a fence that have become damaged or have broken
Fencing tools Fencing using wire supported by and strained against posts
Personal protective equipment (PPE) A system designed to protect the safety, health and welfare of people in the workplace
Conventional fencing A set of standard requirements determined by the manufacturer for a particular vehicle, piece of machinery or equipment, tool or type of material
Clearing and tidying A document that lists designated work tasks, tools and materials, time frame and supervisor’s instructions
