Discrimination in the workplace

It is important for every workplace that policies and procedures designed to prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace are in place.
Discrimination occurs when people are unfairly treated at work.
Harassment is any form of behaviour that humiliates, offends or intimidates anyone.

The NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1997 prohibits discrimination on the following grounds:

Everyone has the right to feel comfortable and safe at work. Workplace culture is the key to preventing discrimination, harassment and bullying at work. The workplace atmosphere should be open with good communication, where everyone is treated equally and with respect.
People who are harassed or discriminated against have a legal right to complain to the Anti-discrimination Board if they can’t solve the problem within the workplace themselves and/or don’t trust the workplace to solve it.
