EEO refers to the principle of Equal Employment Opportunity. This means having workplaces that are fair to all people and do not discriminate against any individual or group. According to EEO, groups who are disadvantaged now or were in the past should be given the opportunity to develop their skills and individual’s job prospects and opportunities should be determined by their skills, experiences and abilities. Their race, ethnic origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, health status, disability and other things that are irrelevant to the performance of their duties must not be considered.
In such an environment all workers are valued and respected and have opportunities to pursue the full development of their skills.
EEO forms part of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1997, which can be accessed
at the following website.

All Government departments are required to have an EEO policy. Many private organisations and companies also have EEO policies in order to meet the legislative requirements of the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1997.
Within the workplace, the contributions of individuals of different gender and social and cultural backgrounds must be recognised and sought and the principles of equal opportunity and anti-discrimination must be observed and implemented.
