Industrial awards are established by either the state or federal government, and relate to specific industry sectors. Awards provide the terms and conditions of employment, including the following:
Awards are the arrangements between employers and employees in regard to workplace conditions and wages. They set out rights and obligations for particular types of work. Awards include such things as sick leave, overtime pay, shift work and allowances for dirty or hazardous work. One of the main responsibilities of a trade union is to make sure the award is enforced.
The NSW Department of Commerce, Office of Industrial Relations administers the NSW Industrial Relations ACT1966 as well as other legislation dealing with employment matters.
Most agricultural jobs are covered by the Pastoral Industry Award.

An Enterprise agreement is much like an award: it sets out minimum terms and conditions of employment. The main difference is that it applies to a specific task or workplace and is negotiated voluntarily by the employers and employees or by a union on behalf of the employees.
All workplace agreements must comply with state or federal legislation and must cover annual, parental and long service leave entitlements. The agreement must be in writing and signed by, or on behalf of, the parties concerned.
