Creating Space Probe Seven
- The syllabus identifies the following approaches:
structured, prototyping, rapid applications development, end-user development
and a combination approach. The approach taken in this instance, involved teams
of people, with varying expertise, coming together to create the final product.
I would find it difficult to support the RAD or end-user approach in this
instance. However, you should assess your answer is terms of the reasons you
were able to give in support of your choice.
- Your table may need a little thought to construct as
the article does not go through each step in turn and you may need to make some
assumptions. Make sure you have included the decisions made as part of the
actions, as well as the progress in constructing the
software.
- I can easily see three advantages
(though there may be more). These relate to:
- access to the core of the application when developing
the application;
- the need for an additional .DLL
file in order to run the final application in
VB;
- the ease with which Delphi handled the
analogue interface.
These advantages may be relevant to the choice you make for your HSC project.
- One of the critical issues to be addressed here is
your view of the software market. Is multimedia included in everything? Where is
this demand coming from do you think? Would a software company that did not
include multimedia and special effects in its game be able to survive?
Creating software for yourself is great
fun but if you wish to make a career out of it you need to have a good idea of
the marketplace. What evidence do you have for your picture of the software
marketplace–or is your answer based solely on your own point of view?
Good answers here will give their own
viewpoint and support it with evidence from the marketplace, e.g. surveys, sales
figures.
